It's not really old product as it was launched in somewhere in 2006. How much your friend offered and what's exactly your budjet is ?

Perhaps u can consider Canon entry level model (EOS 1000D), the market price is around 1500-1800k if it meets your budjet range.

I'm also considering upgrade to another Canon model and sell my current model i have right now..

RM1K is just for camera (with lens) or with the kit ? Your friend is selling at reasonable price after depreciation rate. But you try to bargain for lower price around RM800 if he/she if the warranty is already expired and if only selling the camera unit 2u. See whether your friend is willing to let go or not with price if it is.

Another thing u must need to know is - DON'T just only see the price tag but never check out the features/specs. Yep, i know u may not understand all things in the specs.

So let's just take a simple feature for example... this camera only has only 6 megapixel whereas your Lumix or maybe other compact digital cameras also have much higher megapixel resolution than D40. So the point is, u may not satisfy with the output (picture quality) or other factors as well.

I'm not trying to discourage u but u need to understand that and i'll be glad to see u own at least a good entry level SLR for start in one fine day. Trust me, if u have a heart to go for SLR, u really need to spend a bit for it. After all, u won't be regretted for what u have invested. :-)

Hi Vi,

Am a DSLR user. Come across your post when trying to check the D40 second hand price. Planning to sell mine.

Not sure you interested in following info but just to share.

DSLR difference to compact camera is not about megapixels. A compact camera that is 12MP is no where close to the quality of 6MP D40. The quality is difference from the build of camera (sensor size & lens) where compact cannot compare.

A 6MP photo on DSLR is good enough to print banner size and even advertisement board size photos. I am serious:)
